Some of my favorite freeware apps.

These are apps that I use on all my systems starting with Firefox Web Browser! Then in no particular order….

Game Booster Turns off unnecessary services before gaming! Even when you have a uber fast rig – sometimes certain services can slow certain games down.
Case in point – for me Far Cry 2 lags until I shut down Pen Tablet Services that I use for my Wacom Bamboo tablet.

Crap Cleaner CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool.

Smart Defrag™ The Automated Defragmenter, quick and easy to use.

SyncToy v2.0 Local File Backup.  I set mine to Echo and back up my files to my WD My Book external drive every week or so.

Process Explorer Find out what processes are running in the background on your PC.

Windows Live Essentials Now in one installation, Windows Live Essentials gives you instant messaging, e-mail, blogging, photos, and more.

Microsoft Security Essentials Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Zune – Media player I especially use for subscribing to Podcasts.

    New pc update pictures

Just a few pics of my new pc build.

Scroll down for the more recent PC update pics

Here are the system specs... (updated 10/31/09)

    Q9650 @ 3.60Ghz - Cooling, Zalman CNPS9700 - GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R
    8gigs 4x2Gb OCZ ram @1060mhz - Diamond ATI 4870X2 - 750WATT PC Power and Cooling OCZ
    Soundblaster Platinum X-FI - 2 X 300 GB Velociraptors - Windows 7 Premium 64bit - Antec 300 Case with a bunch o' fans

I used a Ryobi rotary tool with a Dremel reinforced fiberglass wheel to cut the side hole.

The side window is acrylic sheet and lined with automotive hose that was spilt in half.

Close up of the Zalman CPU cooler and the OCZ ram.

Diamond ATI 4870X2 vidcard and PC power 750 psu.

The Gigabyte board is a breeze to overclock and coupled with the Zalman cooler the temps stay at 32c idle and 40's when running games.

For benchmarks and test I use ...

    Prime95
Intel BurnTest V 1.9 for 64bit (really ramps up the temps on this test!)
    RealTemp
    PC Wizard 2008
    Fraps
    Memtest
    Procexp

Rear of Antec case. I added just recently dual exhaust fans above vid card.

(update 01/20/09) added 2 more sticks of OCZ Ram and took off the Gigabyte heatsink covers.

(update 01/20/09) The APC UPS behind the pc, shown here with pc moved for picture. I added an ASUS DVD/CD

(update 01/20/09) The Nostromo n52te (pretty responsive unit!) and the Logitech G5 rev.2 Mouse.
The book to the left is Windows Vista Secrets by Paul Thurrott (Awesome informative book!)
